Innergy
Power Corporation provides technical support services, including
battery design, charge control, fuel gauging, and conversion from
other chemistries, to develop "drop-in" power solutions for OEM's
and industrial accounts. We also work with value-added distributors
who can provide additional services.
The
following design tips will make your power solution more effective:
- Consider
power solutions at the very beginning of the device design cycle. Too often,
batteries are the last component considered, thereby reducing
the power options.
- Evaluate
the total cost of a power solution.
Sourcing cells is only the start.
The cost of packaging for round cells, added to the charge control
cost associated with NiMH and Li-Ion must be considered in the
evaluation.
- Maximize
available space.
Keep in mind that putting round
cells into a rectangular box reduces energy density by up to 25%.
- Provide
as many device performance details
as possible to battery component
candidates, early in the design phase, so maximum effort can be
focused on providing the best solution.
- Provide
for alternate chemistry sourcing.
Avoid designing your product into a battery chemistry "corner".
Innergy's ThinLineŽ
cells can substitute for NiCD and NiMH in
many applications.
- Charge
control can be very costly, especially for Li Ion. Innergy's ThinLine cells offer the
simplest and least expensive charge control options.
- Control
high temperature environmental impact
on batteries by thermal compensation.
- Carefully
follow Charging Specifications.
Early on in the design cycle be sure to carefully read the Charging
Considerations guidelines.
