Applications Notes - Glass Solar Panels (IP20G & IP50G)
For permanent, off-grid solar power applications, Innergy Power produces two basic sizes of framed, tempered glass solar panels…those being the 20 watt and 50 watt units, both with 12V output.
This application note is being provided as a guide to those customers who may not be ready for a grid-tied roof-top solar installation but you know you want to take at least a small step in that direction. It may also be for those customers who do have a grid-tied roof-top solar installation but want to expand their renewable energy solutions to off-grid applications.
For these types of permanent installations we suggest our framed glass solar panels.
Fortunately there are many options available in terms of either powering such off-grid applications as water pumps, gate openers, remote surveillance cameras, security lighting, etc. Options include powering the device, during the day time, from the solar panel and/or recharging a storage battery that can then be used to power the application when needed…day or night. Even though a variety of voltages are available (i.e. 6V to 48V) a typical approach is to power devices needing 12VDC power.
Water Pumps-Can be operated off solar panels and/or batteries with solar recharging.
Gate Openers-Can be operated off solar panels and/or batteries with solar recharging.
Remote Surveillance-Can be grid tied with solar/battery back-up or off-grid with solar panels used for battery recharging.
Security Lighting- Can be operated off batteries with solar recharging.
Cabin Kits- Can be operated off-grid with solar panels and/or batteries with solar recharging.
RVs- Framed glass solar modules should be used if a permanent, roof-top solar system is to be installed for use on an RV.
RVs- A couple of framed, glass solar panels (i.e. 20 watt and 50 watt) are ideal sources of power to install on the flat roof of an RV for use when camping, to top off the RVs deep cycle batteries, to recharge supplemental batteries (i.e. AA & AAA rechargeable battery chargers) or 12V storage batteries that can be used to power lights, TVs, DVD players, etc.
Boats- Many sailboats and all power boats use deep cycle 12V batteries for a wide range of applications such as engine starting, instrumentation, lighting and communications. A framed glass solar panel is an excellent solution for float charging these deep cycle batteries when they are not being used for a period of time and especially when no grid power is available. These framed panels can be mounted on a flexible rack that allows for storage, deployment and positioning.
Emergency Power- Innergy’s 50 watt FRP (fiberglass) solar panels are framed and built into a briefcase style unit that is easy to move, deploy and activate in less than 10 minutes. For example, the IPS200 (Innergy Power Station) is comprised of four (4) 50 watt solar panels, a rugged mobile enclosure that holds a 12V, 100Ah deep cycle battery and a 1500 watt DC to AC inverter. The lightweight FRP solar panels make this portable power station ideal for back up power following blackouts, hurricanes, earthquakes, etc where the grid can be down for days or weeks. This IPS200 unit can power essential communications such as laptop PCs, cell phones, water pumps, emergency lighting, TVs, etc simply by plugging in the AC power strip and the AC cord for the various devices. For more permanent “emergency power” back-up we recommend the 50 watt framed Glass solar panels be used as they are designed to withstand the harshest environments.
